    • South African Market Overview


      The top40 Index closed the day 727points in the black to trade at 24782, as the Resource 20 Index gained 3.16% whilst the financial 15 Index gained 2.62%, as the Industrial 25 index closed the day 2.77% firmer. Commodities were mixed as Gold shed $2.2 to trade at $1246; crude was firmer on the day to trade at $7660/barrel. The local unit closed the day at R 7.28 at the close of trade in Johannesburg.

      Once again volatility was the name of the game for traders although the bulls dominated trading session today, with better than expected manufacturing numbers from China and the USA pushing US equities to its biggest intraday climb since 7th July 2010, Dow front month futures contract ended the up 266 points at 10271,  commodities experienced some buying through the session with industrial metals like copper climbing 3%  , Gold got sold off its highs of $1254 to close the day down $2.5 at 1244.85, whilst Dollar was weaker against the euro trading at 1.2802.
